OK, here it is – my first post on internal version numbers for SharePoint 2010. Microsoft has skipped lucky number 13 – internally, SharePoint 2010 is version 14, and uses a hive inside web server extensions that we will all soon call the “14 hive.” It will go into public beta in November 2009.
On a related note, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer promised today (at the SharePoint Conference 2009 in Las Vegas) that there would be a better page in the future to help manage and track current published service pack and update levels for the product.
